A personal note of thanks to everyone who contributed to such a successful Mardi Gras event. What a great time! The event created incredible excitement for the market and generated amzing media coverage with 3, 6, 10 and Fox 29 all covering it. Also, WRTI and KWY NewsRadio came out. And did you see that awesome photo in yesterday’s local section (2/17)?

Special thanks to the staff of the Reading Terminal Market and Habitat for Humanity for your help, and to the vendors in the market for being so accommodating. Also, the Al Harrison Dixie Land Jazz Band for inspired music and to our volunteers who twirled, juggled and strutted your stuff.

Only 48 hrs. to go until Fat Tuesday. Come spend it with us at the Reading Terminal Market for food, Dixie Land music, a parade and more! Oh, and watch for us Tuesday morning on Fox 29. Good Day Philadelphia will be shooting live from the Terminal!

Just In! The All Harrison Dixie Land Jazz Band will be performing at our Mardi Gras event at the Reading Terminal Market on Tues., Feb. 16.  

Come hear the sounds of the Big Easy and join our Mardi Gras Parade in Philadelphia’s historic market. All to  help out the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity continue the work of helping to build homes and restoring the Crescent City.

Al Harrison is a band leader and sideman whose instruments are the trumpet, cornet, and fluegelhorn. A graduate of the Philadelphia Musical Academy (now known as the University of the Arts) and Temple University, he played and recorded with Dexter Wansel at International Records, toured with Stanley Clark and Sy Zentner, and performed in the Dixieland band on the historic steamboat  “Delta Queen”.  Al has backed up such greats as Tony Bennett, Billy Daniels, Jack Jones, and Sammy Davis, Jr.

Don’t forget to join the revels at the Reading Terminal Market on Mardi Gras, Tues., Feb. 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dixieland music, a parade and authentic Cajun food are all part of the fun. Proceeds from the sale of our famous gumbo and fantastic King Cake will benefit the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. Come join us for a good cause!

Get ready! Beck’s Cajun Cafe is bringing Mardi Gras to the Reading Terminal Market, Tues., Feb. 16, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Come and enjoy Dixieland music and authentic Cajun favorites including jambalaya, mufaletta and po’ boys. We’ll also be serving up a giant pot of gumbo and the proceeds will benefit the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. The parade starts at 11 a.m. We’ll be cutting the King Cake at 1 p.m., Find the baby inside and win a prize!
