Go With Gumbo, My Friend
January 7, 2010Gumbo when you’re happy. Gumbo when you’re sad. Gumbo when you’re sleepy. Gumbo when you’re mad.
A good gumbo may be the ultimate comfort food. If you’ve never tried it, gumbo is a stew or soup originating in Louisiana and which is popular across the Gulf Coast and into the South. It consists primarily of a strong stock, meat and/or shellfish, a thickener, and the vegetable “holy trinity” of celery, bell peppers and onion. It”s is traditionally served over rice. There’s a decent history on Wikipedia that you can read.
Keep your eyes open for some exciting announcements in the next week or so about our gumbo (P.S. it involves Mardi Gras!)
